US death toll from Hurricane Ivan at least 29
PENSACOLA, Florida: Hurricane Ivan has killed at least 29 people in the southern United States and left more than 1.3 million homes without power, according to media reports on Friday.
Authorities said the storm killed at least 13 people in northwest Florida, the so-called Florida Panhandle, including four who died when a tornado ripped into a mobile home park in Blountstown, 40 miles northeast of Panama City. Six of the 13 died in the Pensacola region, which was worst hit by the storm which hit on Wednesday night. Louisiana reported four hurricane-related deaths, Mississippi two and Georgia one, reports said. Florida governor Jeb Bush has said he expects the death toll to increase. afp
