Removal of BISE controller denied
Staff Report
LAHORE: Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) hairman Dr Muhammad Zikrya Butt denied reports on Tuesday that Dr Zulfiqar Ali Rana had been or was about to be removed as controller of examinations.
Sources told Daily Times on Tuesday night that Dr Rana was being made the scapegoat for a recent scandal involving the registration of a criminal case against two girl students who had broken flower pots outside the BISE chairman’s office in frustration at the delay in the resolution of a complaint they had about an exam.
An inquiry ordered by the chief secretary recommended that the BISE chairman and the secretary, Professor Haji Muhammad Dogar, be removed from their offices, but the two were let off with a warning after Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood intervened, the sources said.
However, since then there have allegations against the exams controller that he could have better handled the situation. The sources claimed that senior Punjab government officials had directed the Education Department to remove Dr Rana and a notification would be released on Wednesday. However, another Punjab government official and the BISE chairman and secretary denied the reports, saying they were unaware of any such moves.
