Robbers loot millions in four hits

LAHORE: Armed robbers looted cash and goods worth millions of rupees in four incidents in the city on Saturday.

In the first incident, six armed men entered the house of a surgical instrument manufacturer and exporter, Talat Zameem Ahmad, in Gosha Angoori Bagh, Baghbanpura police precincts, and fled after looting cash, jewellery and other valuables worth over a million of rupees.

Baghbanpura police said ten minutes after Talat left for his office, two men knocked at the main gate of the house.

The men told a guard, Ameer Khan, at the gate that they wanted to see Talat. Ameer told the visitors that Talat had left for his office. They said they had a few things sent for Talat from abroad.

As the guard opened the door, four armed men entered the house and held him at gunpoint.

The robbers then detained the family and collected jewellery weighing around150 tola, three cameras, clothes, perfumes and Rs 14000 cash in a bag.

They tied the guard with ropes and fled. In the second incident, five armed robbers took away cash, jewellery and electronic goods worth thousands of rupees, besides a motorcycle from the house of a bank officer in H Block, Johar Town late on Friday.

According to Johar Town police, bank officer Sarfraz Ahmad Virk along with his family was asleep in his house when the robbers entered. They deprived the family of Rs 15,000 cash, gold ornaments, a VCR set and a motorcycle (LXD 1674).

In another incident, three armed men entered the house of Chaudhry Barkat Ali in Jamal Park, Sanda police area, and fled after injuring Barkat’s son Mudassar Ali and robbing cash and ornaments worth Rs 10 million. In the fourth incident, three armed men deprived a woman, Husn Ara, of Rs 50,000 when she was in her house in Misri Shah. Husn Ara,s neighbours told Misri Shah police that her stepson Ali was also among the robbers.

Newlywed woman ‘murdered’: A newlywed woman was allegedly murdered in her house at Dhaneaikay village in Hudiyara police precincts on Saturday.

Parveen’s brother Ghulam Hussain accused her husband Adil Omar and mother-in-law Suraya of murdering her for her dowry. However, Hudiyara Police Station Moharrar Arshad said Parveen was electrocuted when she turned on the switch of a fan.
