Nine WAPDA officials kidnapped

By Azizullah Khan

QUETTA: Nine officials of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) were kidnapped as they patrolled the Chattar area in Dera Murad Jamali on Saturday.

Officials confirmed that nine members of the Grid Station Operation were missing and feared they had been kidnapped. According to information coming in from Sibi, it is suspected 15 masked gunmen kidnapped the officials and took off in the WAPDA vehicle.

The WAPDA staffers were working on the 220kV supply line for Gudu Sibi, PRO for the Quetta Electric Supply Corporation Jibrael Khan told Daily Times. Though no demands have been received from the kidnappers and no clues found, Mr Khan said such tactics were commonly used to pressure WAPDA into electrifying particular villages.

The kidnapped are Baser Ahmad, Muhammad Anwar, Malik Awan, Shahid Mehmood, Atta Muhammad, Noor Muhammad, Muhammad Naeem, Ghulam Rasool and Muhammad Waris.
