List of candidates for Lahore local council by-elections finalised
* 267 candidates to contest 88 seats in 60 union councils and six towns
* 23 candidates elected unopposed
LAHORE: Twenty-three candidates were declared elected unopposed in the Lahore district local bodies by-elections after scrutiny of nomination papers on Wednesday. A total of 267 candidates will contest 88 seats in 60 union councils (UC) and six towns.
Polling for UC-6 will not be held as only one woman filed her nomination, which was rejected. 267 candidates were allotted symbols on Wednesday. A total of 63 candidates will contest 16 seats for nazims while 10 candidates are in the run for 5 seats for naib nazims. Fifty-seven candidates will contest 12 seats for male general councilor (GC) and 51 will contest 27 seats for female GC. A total of 39 male and 19 female candidates will contest 7 and 17 seats respectively for peasant workers (PW). Twenty-eight candidates will contest 9 seats reserved for the minorities. For general councilor women:UC-7 Shahdra: Nusrat Parveen, UC-26 Farooq Ganj: Zeenat Anjum, UC-37 Muslimabad: Razia Sultana, UC-51: Gulshan Naseem, UC-71 Balal Ganj: Zahida Bashir, UC-78 Race Course: Farah Naz and Shaista Waheed, UC-115: Saima Imran, UC-116 Johar Town: Rukhsana, UC-119 Razia Bibi and UC-150 Pandoki Kalsoom Begum.
Female PWs elected unopposed are UC-40 Salmatpura: Zakia Khatoon, UC-43 Babu Sabu: Bushra Kasur, UC-44 Bahawalpur House: Tamseela Sharif, UC-61 Bhangali: Haleema Bibi and UC-147 Jiya Bagga: Shehnaz Riffat Sindhu.
Muhammad Fazil Khan was declared elected from UC-121 as PW.
Four candidates were declared elected for the seats reserved for the minorities.
They are UC-9 Qila Lachman: Singh Tariq Bajwa, UC-28 Rang Mahal: Sunil Gulzar Khan, UC 68 Amin Park: Saleem Khan and UC-112 Sabzazar: Asif Masih.
The candidates who are contesting the seats for nazims are UC-9 Qila Lachman Singh: Nasir Javed, Zulfiqar Aziz, Suhail Mahmood Malik, Muhammad Rashid, Muhammad Tahior Khan, Mian Muhammad Yousaf and Atif Ali Bukhari.
UC-17: Ch Muhammad Rafiq, Ali Imran, Mian Muhammad Tanvir and Mehboob Arshad.
UC-20: Saleem Hammad, Rana Tariq Bashir, Hafiz Moen Ahmad, Ch Saddat Hussain, Abdul Waheed and Muhammad Saleem.
UC-48: Mughalpura Nasir Latif, Haji Mushtaq Khoker and Ashfaq Ahmad.
UC-67: Abdul Ghafoor, Mehr Muhammad Qayyum, Abdul Waheed Tariq, Mian Abdur Rehman, Mian Farooq and Muhammad Qasim Shehzad.
UC-74: Sarae Sultan Fasih-ud-din, Zulfiqar Ali, Amjad Hussain and Ch Khalid Shahbaz.
UC-93: Bahawalpur House Mian Ashfaq, Ch Imdad Ali, Ch Muhammad Mumtaz Sarwar, Sahir Dabeer Sunny, Rana Abdul Majeed Malik and Malik Shamim Raza.
UC-99: Naseer Ahmad Rasheed, Tariq Sadiq, Kashif Qamar, Sana Ullah Cheema and Muhammad Ramzan.
UC-106: Samnabad Mian Muhammad Afzal, Mian Muhammad Asif and Mian Muhammad Jehangir.
UC-113: Mian Basharat Ali Dola, Mian Zaheer, Ashfaq Ahmad, Anwar Ali and Shahzad Aslam.
UC-128: Ch Amjad, Ch Murtaza and Muhammad Faiz.
UC-129: Liaqatabad Matheez Khan, Muhammad Ghafoor, Azhar Masood, Tariq Mahmood, Muhammad Ashraf Murtazai, Haji Qaiser Mustafa Khan, Haji Sultan Ahmad, Muhammad Qasir Anwar and Saeed Gul.
By-elections for 3537 vacant seats in the local government will be held on March 28 in 2014 union councils of Punjab.
