NIH seminar urges disease prevention
ISLAMABAD: The Health Ministry, National Institute of Health (NIH) and leading international organisations on Thursday highlighted the need to control prevalent communicable disease by creating awareness among the general public. The speakers were addressing a NIH organised seminar on “Control of Prevalent Communicable Disease and Launch of 2nd Issue of Seasonal Awareness and Alter Letter (SAAL).”
Muhammad Nasir Khan, health minister, said time had proved that communicable diseases did not respect borders, boundaries, race or creed. “These diseases disrupt social and economic life and affect the individuals, families and civil societies emotionally,” he added. NIH officials said that prevention was better than wasting resources on antibiotics and other medicines. The minister said that the strained economies of the developing nations continued to be burdened with an unhealthy workforce, which lost many hours due to epidemics and pandemics. staff report
