Syed Asad Ali Conservation Award ceremony

LAHORE: The 2005 Syed Asad Ali Conservation Award (SAACA) was given to Maulvi Fazalullah and Abdul Qayyum Raisani for their conservation efforts for Chitral Gol National Park and Hazar Ganji Chiltan National Park. The prize-giving ceremony was held in Ali Auditorium at the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) office in Lahore on Thursday. Begum Fakhare Jehan Asad Ali was the chief guest.

Fazlullah and Raisani were given award in recognition of their efforts as conservationists in their respective areas.

Fazlullah worked as a social worker for over sixty years in Thingsheng village near Chitral. He and his associates launched a campaign against indiscriminate hunting and uncontrolled grazing in and around Chitral Gol National Park.

Raisani, a wildlife deputy ranger at HazarGanji Chiltan National Park in Quetta, started his career as a game watcher. He put all his efforts to protect Markhor in the park and succeeded in raising their number from 100 to 1,000 during the last 20 years. The SAACA is a tribute to Ali for his contributions in conserving wildlife and natural resources in Pakistan. staff report
