Jazz concert at French Centre on September 22
LAHORE: The Alliance Francaise will play host to a jazz concert on September 22. The Goeth-Institute Karachi, the Alliance Francaise du Pakistan and National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) have together arranged the concert.
Uli Lenz, Francois Jeanneau and Ustad Bashir Khan from Paris, Berlin and Karachi came together in a French-German-Pakistan jazz music workshop in Karachi during September. These musicians will perform in the concert.
Uli Lenz is a dynamic German pianist with a playful sense of time, melody and composition. He studied classical piano and cello at the Frankfurt Conservatory. Uli spent time in Italy and eventually moved to Berlin in 1980 to work in jazz clubs. It was during this time that Uli associated with notable European saxophonists and toured many countries.
Francois Jeanneau is a self-taught saxophone player. He studied flute with Rene Leroy and he started an international jazz career with his own quartet in 1960.
Ustad Bashir Khan is renowned for his fine aesthetics. He has accompanied most leading vocalists and musicians in concerts home and abroad. Apart from running a music academy in Karachi, he also teaches at NAPA.
