Musharraf is violating EC code: PPPP
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarians (PPP-P) on Tuesday urged the Chief Election Commission (CEC) to take notice of violations of the Code of Conduct of the local body elections by President General Musharraf.
Raja Pervez Ashraf, secretary general PPP-P said that the CEC should issue a notice to General Musharraf for making speeches in public gatherings and openly supporting the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) candidates.
“This clearly shows that the CEC is not an independent institution and works on government directions. The president, prime minister, chief ministers and federal ministers and other government officials are openly supporting PML candidates and the CEC is silently watching on,” he added. He complained that the government was using tactics including registration of false and fabricated cases against opponents, kidnapping and coercion them to withdraw from the elections without any fear of action from the CEC. “Life attempts have been made on our leaders, but no case has been registered against any one despite repeated efforts,” he added.
