Iraqi decision to force journalists from Najaf ‘unacceptable’: RSF

PARIS: Media rights watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned late on Sunday the decision by the Iraqi government to order journalists out of the strife-torn holy city of Najaf. “We condemn the totally unacceptable imposition of an information blackout. This is an unprecedented decision in Iraq,” the French-based organisation said in a statement. It urged the Iraqi government to immediately reverse the move, which came a day after the authorities in Baghdad vowed to launch a major assault on the forces in Najaf of radical Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr. afp
