20 dead in China mine accidents
BEIJING: Twenty people were confirmed dead on Wednesday and 18 more were missing after a series of accidents in Chinese mines, local officials and state media said.
Fifteen workers died and seven were missing after a gas explosion at the No 1 coal mine of the state-owned Huangling Mining Co Ltd in northwest Shaanxi province on Tuesday afternoon.
In northeast Liaoning province, five people were killed in a disused coal pit collapse, the Xinhua news agency said.
The accident happened Tuesday in Dashiqiao city when a magnesia workshop above the pit fell into a 33-foot deep tunnel after a sudden collapse. afp
