Abbas due on Thursday
ISLAMABAD: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Pakistan later this week to discuss the situation in the Middle East, Foreign Ministry spokesman Jalil Abbas Jilani told journalists at a news conference here on Monday. Jilani said that Abbas would arrive in Pakistan on Thursday and was scheduled to meet President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. He said that both sides would focus on the latest developments in the Middle East peace process and difficulties facing it. “Pakistan will be very happy to play a positive role in the Middle East peace process,” he said, adding that the country had consistently extended clear and unreserved support for the Palestinian cause, the fundamental elements of which was the completed withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Arab territories including Jerusalem. ap
