Sunni cleric wounded in attack

KARACHI: Two unidentified gunmen shot a Sunni cleric in the face Monday but he survived the attack in the city, police said.

Mohammed Sheikh, 55, was hit by two bullets from a pistol during the attack inside his office in downtown Karachi, said Shahzad Waheed, a Karachi police official. Sheikh, who teaches the Quran at the International Islamic Propagation Center was in a stable condition at a hospital, Waheed said. Witnesses reported that the two assailants fled on a motorcycle after the shooting, Waheed said.A motive for the attack was not immediately clear and Waheed said police were investigating. ap
