Kasuri in US next week

Washington: Pakistan’s foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri arrives in the US capital on May 19 on a two-day visit that includes meetings with senior US officials, congressional leaders and US media managers.

Earlier, in New York he will preside over a session of the Security Council which Pakistani is heading for the current month.

An official spokesman here said the visit is “part of the ongoing bilateral contacts between the two countries aimed at further strengthening and deepening the existing close ties.”

Mr Kasuri will be meeting Secretary of State Colin Powell on 19 May and National Security Adviser Ms Condoleezza Rice the next day. He is also due to meet “key” senators and representatives from both Republican and Democratic parties. As he did last time, he will once again be addressing the right-wing think tank, the Heritage Foundation, as well as the Pennsylvania Foreign Policy Association.

In addition to that, Mr Kasuri will brief media managers at Washington Post, Washington Times, New York Times and CNN. A meeting with members of the Pakistani American community is also planned, as well as one with Pakistani. —Khalid Hasan
