Youth was killed for evading picket, says family
LAHORE: The body of Babar Butt, who was shot dead by a security guard on Sunday night in Shadbagh police jurisdiction, was given to his family after an autopsy on Monday and was later buried.
The family of the deceased said that Mr Butt left the house to attend a friend’s wedding and was shot on his way back. The family said police had gunned down him down for not obeying their orders.
Locals said Shadbagh police held a picket at Gol Bagh and signalled three motorcyclists to stop, but they did not. The police chased them, shouting loudly for people to “catch the robbers”.
When the motorcyclists reached Aziz Park, a security guard Altaf Rauf, after hearing the police shouting tried to stop them, but the motorcyclists did not stop, upon which Mr Rauf opened fire. Mr Butt received bullet injuries and the other two fell off their bikes. All were taken to the hospital, where Mr Butt died.
Police arrested Mr Rauf after registering a case against him on the complaint of the father of the deceased. —Staff Report
