PML-N flays president’s powers
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Chief Coordinator of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Ahsan Iqbal, on Wednesday termed the issuance of the notification concerning presidential power of dissolving the parliament, as an insult to the parliament.
In a press statement he said that giving effect to self-bestowed powers without validation by the parliament was an ultra constitutional and a serious crime. “This also shows that the Jamali government was a mere show piece and the real powers lay with General Musharraf,” he said, adding the Jamali government had been inducted to merely divert public criticism. It was ironic, he said, that the opposition raised the LFO issue in the National Assembly, but the speaker reserved his ruling on the subject. He added that General Musharraf without waiting for the Speakers ruling bulldozed rules and procedures to issue the notification enhancing his powers.
