‘Navy mode shifted from defensive to offensive’
ON BOARD PNS NASR: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah said Wednesday that the overall thrust of the Pakistan Navy has been shifted from a defensive to an offensive nature of operations to make it a more potent force.
The induction of new surface ships including F-22P frigates is part of this policy, he said while briefing newsmen who were taken to witness exercises, especially conducted by the warships of Pakistan Navy. He said future inductions of frigates would cost less and that the Navy would buy maritime surveillance aircraft. Pakistan Navy is in a position to give tit-for-tat response to the enemy and in case of any war it is fully capable to fight it in enemy’s territorial waters, CNS Karimullah said. He said since there had not been any support from other countries in terms of supply of military hardware and consumables, Pakistan Navy was looking forward to attain maximum self-reliance, going for hardware that was easily available. —APP
