‘Lawyer’s suicide attempt highlights judicial failures’
Staff Report
LAHORE: Former Balochistan High Court judge and Supreme Court Bar Association President Tariq Mahmood said the suicide attempt by the lawyer was distressing news and the judiciary should strive to eliminate its flaws.
“When an educated person like a lawyer is tempted to commit suicide because justice is not provided, what can we expect of other people?” he said. “When a general comes to power, the judiciary tries to justify the act, which tells people that justice is only for the powerful.”
Lahore High Court Bar Association President Ahmad Awais said it was a sad incident, which proved that the judicial system had deteriorated. “People are desperate for justice. The hearings of many cases are intentionally delayed, which has obscured justice,” he said. “The judiciary should correct its flaws and impart justice to all who seek it.”
