GCU to start four-year degrees next year
LAHORE: Government College University (GCU) will replace its two-year Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (BA/BSc) with a four-year BA/BSc (Honours) degree from 2005, said GCU Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab on Tuesday.
Addressing the new batch of BA/BSc students at the Bokhari Auditorium on Tuesday, he said this would bridge the gap between international academic institutes and the GCU.
“Efforts are being made to convert the GCU into a world class university,” Dr Aftab said. He said market-oriented disciplines like industrial biotechnology would soon be introduced in the universtiy.
The vice chancellor advised the students not to waste time in politics and sectarianism. “We must follow the golden principles of Islam, which teaches tolerance, patience and respect,” he said.
He said the GCU had already established an industrial chemistry department and MSc and postgraduate diplomas in telecommunication to produce skilled manpower. “GCU is also extending its academic links with Asian and European universities.”
