Artists prominent among civil awards recipients

ISLAMABAD: Renowned poets, writers and singers were among the 116 Pakistanis who received different civil awards, conferred by the president on independence day on Saturday. Poet Ahmad Faraz and singer Fareeda Khanum were both awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz, while late movie star Rangeela (Muhammad Seed) and late journalist Imtiaz Sipra were given Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
As many as 14 foreign nationals were also acknowledged for their services in various fields. The following awards will be given away at a ceremony on the next Pakistan Day, March 23, 2005.
