Mukherjee accuses Pakistan of terror

NEW DELHI: Two days before President Musharraf’s visit to India, Indian Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday charged Pakistan with ‘double standards’ on terrorism. “Pakistan is having double standards on terrorism as on the one hand it is saying something else but on the other it is supporting terrorism in the name of religion in Jammu and Kashmir,” Mukherjee said. Praising the Indian security forces for controlling ‘infiltration’ in Kashmir, he, however, said a large number of militants were still on the “launching pads” waiting for an opportunity to cross over. “Infiltration attempts are still on and the militants are being given special training to cross the border fence,” he told a seminar on “Peace Perspectives In South and South East Asia — Challenges and Opportunities” at the Punjab University in Chandigarh. Mukherjee said political courage and statesmanship was needed to tackle new challenges and grab opportunities for peace and development in the subcontinent. iftikhar gilani
