Paris Games to trigger business boost

PARIS: A victory for Paris in the race to stage the 2012 Olympics would inject six billion euros into the French economy and generate 60,000 jobs between 2005 and 2012, according to the findings of a study released on Monday.

A further 45,000 jobs, 22,000 in tourism and 20,500 in the sports industry would be created between 2012 and 2019 with an additional 35 billion euro boost to the economy, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) estimates.

A Paris Olympics would cost 6.75 billion euros — 2 billion euros in staging the Games and 4.75 billion euros in infrastructure. The Games would be expected to boost tourism in the post-Olympic period by an extra 6.5 million visitors spending 2 billion euros. The International Olympic Committee chooses between Paris, London, New York, Madrid and Moscow at its July session in Singapore. afp
