India seeks information from America on missile system

NEW DELHI: India has asked the United States for technical information on its Patriot anti-missile system for use in the development of an indigenous anti-missile system, the Press Trust of India reports. Defence Minister George Fernandes on Wednesday confirmed in the Rajya Sabha (upper house of parliament) that a request had been sent to the US Defence Cooperation Agency, but said the proposal was at a preliminary stage. Mr Fernandes denied India had asked Tel Aviv and Washington about the upgraded Arrow anti-missile system. On the introduction of Pilotless Target Aircraft - Lakshya, the minister said five of these had been delivered to the Indian Air Force. —Daily Times Monitor
