Bullets sent to Indonesian consulate in Australia
SYDNEY: An envelope containing bullets was sent to the Indonesian consulate in the west Australian city of Perth along with a letter warning staff would be killed unless an accused Australian drug smuggler was freed from a Bali jail. The letter and bullets arrived at the consulate on Monday demanding that Schapelle Corby be freed in Bali where she is undergoing trial, charged with smuggling marijuana into the Indonesian island. Prosecutors could call for the death penalty. “The threats which have been made to the Indonesian consulate in Perth are outrageous, they are un-Australian,” Australian Justice Minister Chris Ellison told reporters on Wednesday. “We want to give an assurance to the Indonesian government that we will make every effort possible to bring to justice those responsible for that act,” said Ellison. Beauty therapist Schapelle Corby, 27, from Australia’s eastern Gold Coast, is accused of smuggling 4.1 kg (9 lb) of marijuana into Bali in 2004. The drugs were allegedly stashed in a boogie board, or bodyboard, bag. Corby has said she did not know the drugs were there. reuters
