PPPP submits Transparency Bill in Senate
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) has submitted a ‘Transparency Bill’ in the Senate to monitor all public sector projects in the country. Addressing a press conference on Monday at the PPPP media centre, Senator Rukhsana Zuberi said the bill would enable all stakeholders to monitor all mega projects of public sector departments, organisations and companies. She said the bill was first submitted to the legislative committee of the PPPP because the party was committed to good governance. “Accountability is the pre-requisite of good governance,” she added. Senator Rukhsana said that Pakistan needed transparency in the budget, the accountability system, strong auditing and accounting by public accounts committee. She said the bill sought to establish an autonomous corporation to develop and maintain the Pakistan Portal on Contracts management for bringing transparency to all contracts pertaining to services and purchases. The information dissipated through this portal would provide the missing internal and external control and eliminate tremendous loss of the taxpayer’s money, she added. app
