We were only stopped for luggage search: Khan of Kalat
QUETTA: The Khan of Kalat denied on Monday that he and his Arab friends had been arrested or detained in Afghanistan, saying they were only stopped so their luggage and travel documents could be checked.
In a hurriedly called press conference here at his residence, Agha Suleman Daud took strong note of press reports that they had been arrested in Afghanistan, where they had gone for a hunting trip. Agha Faisal Daud, the Khan’s brother, said they had been stopped briefly at Spin Boldak on their way back from the hunting trip while their documents and luggage were checked. He said that American officials apologised to the Khan of Kalat and his friends for the inconvenience.
He told Daily Times that the people of Balochistan were very angry about the press reports that the Khan had been arrested and might protest. Faisal Daud said that someone in the Afghan government had “misguided” the Americans about the Arabs visiting Afghanistan with the Khan of Kalat. He said that they had planned to invest in southern Afghanistan, but decided not to when they found the Afghan administration in Kandahar was divided. staff report
