24 killed in Peru bus crash

LIMA: A speeding bus plunged into a chasm in central Peru overnight Friday, killing 24 people and injuring 20 others, including schoolchildren, police said Saturday.

The bus was transporting more than 50 passengers when it tipped over and fell into a 200-meter chasm in Angash, Cerro de Pasco department, a police spokesman said. Police blamed excessive speed and rainy weather for the crash. —AFP
