Shahbaz nominates Mashood as nazim

By Qamar Jabbar

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Shahbaz Sharif nominated MPA Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan to contest PML nominee Mian Amer Mehmood for Lahore district nazim, said sources on Monday. Qulsoom Nawaz, wife of former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, recommended her nephew Mian Muhammad Asad as the party-backed candidate for Lahore district nazim.

Shahbaz Sharif nominated Muhammad Adrees Hanif, son of PML-N President Haji Muhammad Hanif, for Data Ganj Buksh Town nazim instead of Khwaja Ahmad Hassan. Sources said this was confusing since Khwaja Hassan was the favourite for the seat among PML-N senior leaders. The party leaders were not in favour of Adrees because he was politically inexperienced, said sources, adding that Haji Hanif had requested Shahbaz Sharif to nominate his son. They said that party leaders had proposed Mian Marghoob Ahmad and Mian Imran Nazir for Data Ganj Buksh Town nazim. Party leaders recommended Amir Asghar Dar for Ravi Town nazim, but Shahbaz Sharif nominated former MPA Malik Riaz on Haji Hanif’s request, said sources.

A senior PML-N leader told sources that Shahbaz Sharif should reconsider the nomination of Rana Mashood and Adrees Hanif.
