SC to take up Shahbaz’s plea for next week
By Mohammad Kamran
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will take up some important constitutional petitions next week including former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif’s petition to return to Pakistan as well as a case against Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s detention.
Supreme Court sources told Daily Times that a constitutional petition seeking the court’s permission for Shahbaz Sharif to return to Pakistan has been fixed for hearing which was likely to be taken up on March 17 (Wednesday). The petition was filed in October 2003 and is pending since. The petition would be taken up along with a civil appeal by Mr Sharif against the issuance of perpetual non-bailable warrants for his arrest by the Lahore High Court.
A case has been registered with Lahore’s Sabzazar Police Station against Mr Sharif and 11 others for a staged police encounter. An anti-terrorism court has declared Mr Sharif an absconder after he failed to appear in the court.
