Shaista fearful of moving to Karachi flat
Staff Report
KARACHI: Shaista Almani said she was fearful of moving to a flat provided to her by a provincial minister because she was not certain of her security there, police sources said on Monday.
Police officials dealing with her security told Daily Times that Ms Almani, who has been declared “kari” by her Almani tribe for marrying a man from the Maher tribe, was confused about the proposed move to the flat in Gulistan-e-Jauhar offered by Population Welfare Minister Minister Imtiaz Sheikh, and described her as being scared and highly depressed. She married Balkhsher Almani in June and Mr Maher divorced her under duress in October.
Meanwhile, Sindh Assembly Deputy Speaker Rahila Tiwana and Mr Sheikh’s representative Aijaz Khokhar visited the women’s police station to hand over letters offering jobs to Ms Almani and her sister Parveen in the population department.
Both sisters have been offered jobs, on one-year contracts, as family welfare assistants (BS-5) in the Population Welfare Office in Karachi (South). Zia Ahmed Aiwan, chief of the Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA), also visited the police station to meet Ms Almani and her parents to assure them of his organisation’s continued support.
