Vehari MPA defects to PML
LAHORE: Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vehari MPA, defected to the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) after a meeting with Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday.
The chief minister, PML Vice President Saeed Ahmed Khan Manais and PML leader Shahid Mahdi Nasim welcomed Tahir to the party. Elahi said it was a healthy sign that opposition leaders were joining the PML because of its people-friendly policies.
He said that the PML was promoting a culture of tolerance, cooperation and democratic values in the country. He said that the party was taking measures to strengthen democratic institutions and added that the PML would utilise the capabilities of politicians who recently joined the party. Iqbal agreed that the government was working for the development of the country.
Chief Minister announces party-backed candidate for Jhang: Pervaiz Elahi declared Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoob the Pakistan Muslim League (PML)-backed candidate for Jhang tehsil nazim. He made the announcement while presiding over a meeting of parliamentarians from Jhang. Elahi also announced Mian Khizar Hayat Kathia as the party-backed candidate for Shorkot tehsil nazim and Talib Raza Khan Sial for Ahmedpur Sial tehsil nazim. Meanwhile, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi declared Bilal Virk the PML-backed candidate for Sheikhupura teshil nazim.
CM names candidates for nazim elections: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has named Pakistan Muslim League-backed candidates for the nazim and naib nazim elections in various districts on Sunday.
He declared Amjad Joyia the PML’s candidate in District Nazim Pakpattan, Hammad Tikka for Naib District Nazim Pakpattan, Farooq Ahmed Manika for Tehsil Nazim Pakpattan and Raja Talai Saeed for Tehsil Nazim Arifwala.
He also declared Mumtaz Khan Khichi PML-supported candidate for District Nazim Vehari, Qurban Chohan for Naib District Nazim Vehari, Mian Saqib Khursheed for Tehsil Nazim Vehari, Asim Saeed Manhais for Tehsil Nazim Mailsi and Nazir Arain for Tehsil Nazim Burewala. The chief minister also appointed Pir Allah Yar Chisti his adviser. staff report
