20 die in lightning and floods in Kunar

By Mudassir Ali Shah

KABUL: At least 20 people including 10 of a family perished in separate natural disasters in the eastern Kunar province, officials and residents said on Sunday.

In the first freak accident, 10 members of a family were killed as lightning struck their mud-house in Drin village in the Ghaziabad district on Sunday.

Earlier, heavy flooding in the district washed away 10 people, with seven bodies found so far. Rain-induced floods have also hit other districts, damaging houses and destroying crops.

Confirming the tragic incident, Kunar Governor Asadullah Wafa said a relief team had been rushed to the far-flung village to provide aid to the calamity-hit people.
