Struggle will continue till Musharraf’s ouster: Fahim
LAHORE: Democratic forces will continue their struggle against ‘the dictator’ until he is shown the door, Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Chairman Makhdoom Amin told reporters after an informal meeting with the ARD Punjab leaders at the Pakistan Democratic Party’s House on Sunday.
Amin said joint opposition would try to remove Gen Pervez Musharraf before the next general elections to ensure free and fair elections. “We believe that free and fair polls are not possible in Musharraf’s presence,” he said.
He said that appointment of an independent and impartial chief election commissioner was important for transparent elections and the ARD would launch a formal struggle for this purpose. He said that the next ARD meeting would be held in the near future to decide about the “anti-Musharraf” campaign’s next phase.
Amin said the September 9 strike-call was a success and got immense response from transporters and traders.
ARD Senior Vice President Nawabzada Mansoor Ali Khan, Pakistan People’s Party Punjab President Qasim Zia, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Punjab General Secretary Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri and ARD Information Deputy Secretary Munir Ahmad Khan were also at the news conference. staff report
