HDIP asked to manufacture CNG equipment
ISLAMABAD: The 67th board of governors meeting of the Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) has directed the HDIP that all-out efforts must be made to start manufacturing of CNG equipment in the country in order to curtail dependence on its imports.
The meeting was held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon. Addressing the meeting, the minister said that Pakistan was endowed with vast hydrocarbon resources and the HDIP should be strengthened to introduce and promote modern technology in order to tap oil and gas resources. Mr Jadoon said that gas facility should be expanded to the agriculture sector in order to achieve high yields. The minister said that all-out efforts must be made to start manufacturing of CNG equipment in the country in order to curtail dependence on its import. He also asked the HDIP to pace up its efforts for early start of CNG buses in Islamabad in order to make it a model city.
HDIP DG Hilal A Raza briefed the meeting about the research and development activities being carried out by the organization. The meeting reviewed the updated performance of the HDIP and expressed satisfaction on its efforts to boost the energy sector. The meeting also considered various administrative and financial matters of the institution. The former chairman of SUPARCO and chairman of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the board of governors, Salim Mehmud, also gave a detailed presentation on energy resources in the country. The meeting was attended by Petroleum Secretary Mr Ahmad Waqar, Director General HDIP Hilal A Raza, Mr Salim Mehmud S.I. DG (PC), M Naeem Malik, DG Gas Saeedullah Shah, Financial Adviser Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources Abdul Ghani Sameen and others. staff report
