DIG orders inquiry into minister’s clash with SHO
JHANG: Faisalabad Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rana Abid Saeed on Monday ordered an inquiry into a recent argument between a police station house officer (SHO) and the federal interior minister.
The DIG asked Jhang District Police Officer (DPO) Khadim Hussain Bhatti to investigate the verbal clash between Interior Minister Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat and Mission Police Station SHO Rana Rustam Ali Meo, who did not release a man held in police custody in a robbery case.
Sources said the minister visited Moza Chella, in his constituency, on Sunday to participate in a ceremony when his voters complained about the SHO of not releasing Muhammad Saleem. The SHO was leading Mr Hayat’s protocol squad at the time. The interior minister asked the SHO to release the suspect but he refused saying the suspect was accused in a robbery case. The minister and the police officer exchanged heated words when Mr Hayat insisted his orders be followed.
The minister’s security guards and the SHO’s policemen readied their guns at each other. The people present calmed things down. The father-in-law of Saleem, Haji Maqsood, and brother-in-law, Arshad, are also reportedly involved in many robbery cases. —SANA
