Poetry book by Dr Feroze launched

By Anjum Gill

LAHORE: One of the best Urdu short storywriters Intezar Hussain presided over the launching ceremony of poetry book Sham-e-Farat-e-Dil by noted poet and journalist Dr Kanwal Feroze at a local hotel the other day.

Famous critics of Urdu literature Dr Khawaja Zikriya and Azhar Javed were prominent among the guests. Intezar Hussain said Dr Feroze’s poetry was a beautiful manifestation of human sentiments in an aesthetic and creative manner. He said the way Dr Feroze used the metaphors of the Cross and Karbala had no parallel in Urdu literature and his literary genius was unmatched. He said apart from his unique style, Dr Feroze’s poetry depicted his own personality.

Critic and poet Ghalib Ahmed said though Dr Feroze comes from a minority, he was an all-encompassing poet who believes in the concept of universality. His poetry is also a reaction to human suffering and agony, Mr Ahmed said.

Dr Zikriya said Dr Feroze’s poetry reflected the aesthetic and romantic aspects of life, pointed out social problems and gave philosophical thoughts. “I found balanced artistic skills in his poetry, which are certainly as beautiful as the poet himself. I still feel the pleasant echo of nostalgic contemplation,” he said.

Azhar Javed conducted the ceremony while Iqbal Rahi and Munawwar Sultana paid a poetic tribute to Dr Feroze. Dr Anwar Sajjad, Zamin Ali Haideri, Dr Akhter Shumaar, Marayam Sarfraz and many others read papers on the works of Dr Feroze. Sham-e-Farat-e-Dil is the third book by Dr Feroze.
