Prayer committees formed in Dir
By Ghafar Ali
PESHAWAR: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) has formed Nizam-e-Salwat committees to ensure the punctuality of prayer in the Lower Dir district.
The formation of these bodies is the first step by the MMA to implement Islamic principles. They will ensure that congregational prayers are offered at bazaars, cities and towns and shops and commercial centres remain closed once azaans commence. It has been decided that police and Levies will patrol to implement the decision effectively and maintain security during prayer timings. NWFP Minister Sirajul Haq formally announced the formation of these committees at Tehsil Jandool and vowed that the system would be streamlined all over the province.
Mr Haq said the campaign was the outcome of long-standing demands from the people and their elected representatives. It was, he said, part of the MMA government’s policy to revive Islamic values and reform society. The speakers on this occasion said that the MMA government for taking steps to Islamise and reform society and assured their support since these moves were the key to worldly and divine success. They said these reforms would create a crime-free society. The first such committee was formed in the district of Nowshera on July 6.
