Iran claims killing many Kurd rebels
TEHRAN: Two Iranian soldiers and several Turkish Kurd guerrillas have been killed in a clash on the Iranian-Turkish border, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Sunday.
Hamid Reza Asefi said the gunbattle between the soldiers and KONGRA-GEL took place “near” the border about 12 days ago. He refused to go into detail, saying neither that the guerrillas had entered Iran nor where the clash occurred along the 400-kilometre border. He said “several” guerillas of KONGRA-GEL were killed. The group is the successor to the Turkish Kurd separatist group, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party or PKK. ap
