Shujaat given hero’s welcome in Gujrat

LAHORE: Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain visited his hometown, Gujrat, as prime minister for the first time on Sunday. A large crowd welcomed him outside the Zahoor Elahi Palace, the family home named after his late father.

Mr Hussain, addressing the public gathering, vowed to continue the policies of President General Pervez Musharraf. He said that he would discharge his duties faithfully and consult people on all matters of national importance.

He said that the government was trying to lessen the problems of the common man. He thanked the president for reposing confidence in him and praised his economic policies, which helped obtain the economic stability. He credited the president with introducing dignity and tolerance to Pakistani politics.

The prime minister met a delegation of women and assured them that the government would resolve the problems of women in Pakistan. Mr Hussain laid a floral wreath at the grave of his father Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi and offered fateha. staff report
