Musharraf wants OIC revitalised

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf on Friday underlined the need to revitalise and strengthen the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), an effective follow up of the strategy outlined in the OIC’s resolution on Enlightened Moderation, adopted at the 10th Islamic Conference in Putrajaya in October last.

The president said this following a presentation by Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar on the forthcoming OIC session in Istanbul from June 14.

Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, who is leading the Pakistani delegation to the ICFM, attended the briefing. The foreign secretary made a comprehensive presentation to the president on the ICFM, including election of the next OIC secretary general, Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq, and the Enlightened Moderation. The foreign secretary said Pakistan would pursue a proactive and interactive policy towards a consensus in the Islamic Conference on all major issues. app
