PPP set to file damages suit against police
HYDERABAD: Office-bearers of the Peoples Lawyers Forum (PLF), the lawyers’ wing of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), announced on Wednesday that they would file damage suits against the Punjab police for what they called the torture and “illegal” detention of PPP workers on the eve of Asif Ali Zardari’s arrival in Lahore.
Hyderabad PLF President Allah Bachayo Soomro made the announcement at a news conference at Hyderabad Press Club. He said they would also provide free legal services to poor prisoners who could not afford legal fees.
He claimed that lawyers in Sindh supported PPP’s struggle for the restoration of democracy and the constitution and the party’s standpoint on the Kalabagh Dam and Thal Canal. He also announced the names of other nominated office-bearers of the PLF Hyderabad and Dadu division. staff report
