3 ex-Indian PMs owe Rs 110m to IAF
NEW DELHI: India’s Defence Ministry has asked three former prime ministers to clear their outstanding dues totalling Rs 110 million against non-official use of the Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft and helicopters by them. “They were entitled to the IAF facility for official duties but have to pay non-official travelling expenses. Chandra Shekhar has to pay Rs 50.9 million followed by the late PV Narasimha Rao who owed Rs 47.2 million to IAF and HD Deve Gowda Rs 5.46 million,” Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee told parliament. The Congress party paid Rs 10 million on April 8 on behalf of the late Narasimha Rao. Mukherjee pointed out that the government filed suits in 2000-01 in the Delhi High Court against the former prime ministers as well as the political parties they represented. The matter is sub-judice, he added. He also said that no dues were pending against any chief minister or a minister. iftikhar gilani
