Islamabad Blood Transfusion Authority established

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has issued a notification for the establishment of the Islamabad Blood Transfusion Authority and appointed Prof Khalid Hasan its chairman. The authority office will be located in the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. The transfusion authority has been established under the Islamabad Transfusion of Safe Blood Ordinance 2002. The authority will function under the supervision of the chairman, who will be assisted by a committee consisting of technical experts in the fields of hematology and transfusion medicine. The committee will also include a representative of the armed forces and members of private sector and other stakeholders. The authority will be responsible for implementing the national blood transfusion policy and adherence to the national bio-safety standards. It will also regulate operations of blood banks functioning in the Islamabad Capital Territory. All new blood banks to be established in future in Islamabad will be required to seek a license from the transfusion authority. online
