SOS to hold surgical conference next month

Staff Report

LAHORE: The Society of Surgeons (SOS) is arranging a two-day international surgical conference on April 5 and 6.

Dr Abdul Majeed, Dr Zafarullah Chaudhry and Dr Faisal told a press conference on Tuesday that the conference would give its recommendations to the federal and provincial governments regarding surgical issues and status of its treatment in Pakistan.

The society would also arrange a public awareness seminar in the third week of March regarding the patients’ surgical problems. The seminar would provide a chance to the public to share its issues with the medical community.

Pakistani surgeons established the SOS in 1981. It covers Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Sahiwal. It includes general surgery and all other specialties. It also arranges biannual international surgical conferences.

Free medical camp: The Lahore Society of Surgeons (SOS) on Tuesday arranged a free camp in Shakar Garh Tehsil Headquarter Hospital and examined around 500 patients of various categories.

Doctors also provided free medicines to the patients. The camp was organised by Prof Dr Javed Iqbal Malik, Prof Dr Majeed Chaudhry, Dr Abdul Majeed, Syed Asif Sadiq, Zafar Ali Chaudhry, Mustafa Arian and other experts. Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed inaugurated the camp.

At the moment, the minister said, the government was committed to provide quality health care to the rural areas’ community. He said the government would encourage doctors with attractive salaries to serve in the rural areas. A total of 25 professors and doctors examined the patients.
