Army begins patrolling 10 Punjab cities
Staff Report
LAHORE: The Army has taken charge of security in ten Punjab cities, patrolling the major procession routes with dogs and metal detectors, source told Daily Times on Tuesday.
The sources said army corps have taken charge in Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Army officials are monitoring the situation in each procession in Pakistan, setting up control rooms at various corps headquarters. The source said other law enforcement agencies would work in collaboration with army officials, but on Muharram 9 and 10 Muharram (March 13 and 14), the law enforcement agencies would work strictly under the command of army officials. So far in Muharram, there has been one incident of violence, when there was firing at a Faisalabad mosque a few days ago.
