EDO sacks lady teacher
LAHORE: Faisalabad’s District Education Officer has fired a lady teacher for physically punishing a student.
The action against the teacher was initiated on the orders of Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Rasool. Muhammad Sharif from Chak No 543 GB in Faisalabad District had filed a complaint alleging that his daughter, Tayyaba Tubassam had been beaten with sticks by her class supervisor, Samina Kausar and was unconscious for fifteen minutes. Her father said the government provided free textbooks for schoolchildren but the headmistress charged Rs 25 and added that the school charged Rs 50 as an admission fee.
He complained that Kausar, a teacher, also punished his other daughter, Hina Tubassam, and niece, Amna Fazal, but Tayyaba could not bear the torture and fell unconscious. The education department had prohibited corporal punishment, he said. Imtiaz Tajwar, special secretary for schools, had directed the EDO to investigate into the complaint lodged by Sharif. Later, the department appointed Rukhsana Rehman, the deputy DEO, to investigate. She recommended that the teacher be removed from service. staff report
