Textile lab to be set up in Sialkot
DASKA: The government would set up a garments training institution and a textile laboratory in Sialkot to sharpen the local women’s sewing skills, Muhammad Ajmal Cheema, the industries and investment provincial minister, told reporters on Tuesday.
The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority would supervise the institutions, said the minister, adding that Sialkot’s textile and garments industry was earning almost Rs 8 billion annually by exporting its goods.
If the area’s labourers were trained systematically they could increase the export revenue from Rs 8 billion to Rs 12 billion, the minister said. The institutions would generate skilled labour force in the area and increase job opportunities. He said skilled women were welcomed in Sialkot’s garments industry and asked industrialists to prepare themselves to meet the challenges of the World Trade Organisation which was bringing a number of changes in the textile industries. staff report
