Harry Potter computer game to be launched
Harry Potter fans will be able to relive his first year at Hogwarts through a computer game.
Software developer Warthog has announced the game will go on sale later this year. The news came as the company issued a profit warning, saying it expected to report pre-tax losses of around £750,000 for the year ending March 31.
The loss is due to the fact that publishing agreements on some games had been expected to be concluded by the time the results were issued later this month. But there is a significant risk that they will not be signed by that date, even though the company expects an element of the revenue to be recognised in this year’s results to March 2004.
Manchester-based Warthog, which employs more than 250 people, has signed a deal with games software publisher Electronic Arts to develop the Harry Potter game. Called Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone - after the first novel by JK Rowling - it will be made for the PlayStation2, XBox and Nintendo GameCube.
It features new 3D graphics and takes the player on a journey to unravel the mystery of the philosopher’s stone. Warthog has also signed new contracts to development games modelled on children’s TV programmes Battlestar Galactica and Looney Tunes. —Ananova.com
