Owners of 1,009 dangerous buildings served final notice

Staff Report

LAHORE: The city district government continued its operation against dangerous buildings on Sunday, serving final notices to owners of 1,009 buildings under Section 141 of the Local government Ordinance 2001.

The municipal administrations of Shalimar Town, Ravi Town, Aziz Bhatti Town, Data Gunj Buksh Town and Allama Iqbal Town served notices to 106, 504, 57, 242 and 100 dangerous buildings respectively. District Officer (Revenue) Malik Muhammad Bukhsh met municipal staff from the towns. He directed authorities to forward the challans against owners of these buildings to the courts.

He said anyone found violating the law would be fined Rs 15,000 or imprisoned for three years. The district officer also reviewed flood safety arrangements in the city. He took note of the negligence of certain officials of the Water and Sanitation Agency and the Lahore Electricity Supply Company in assisting the district administration’s flood relief teams. He said appropriate action would be taken against these officials.
