Musharraf and Aziz for raising awareness about population issues

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf on Sunday said the population factor played a crucial role in development and required a comprehensive approach towards striking a balance between the population increase and resources available to achieve sustainable development.

In his message on World Population Day, President Musharraf called on various segments of society to contribute to raising awareness about population issues.

President Musharraf stressed controlling the population to achieve the common goal of improving the quality of life and addressing gender issues.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in his message said the country’s population growth rate had come down to 1.9 percent due to efficient population management. The prime minister called for mobilising public opinion for building a conducive environment for healthy and happy family norms.

He called on the private sector to work with the government in promoting awareness on reproductive health issues.

The minister for Population Welfare said that government attached the highest priority to population issues. online
